There is NO WAY we could design your space in 2 hours! A fully-developed, well-conceived room design can take an experienced designer anywhere from 20-50 hours. Good design considers your space holistically and how each element relates to the other, as well as how it all fits within the architecture of your home, how it reflects who you are, and of course, how it fits within your budget. This typically requires a floor plan, a layout, a mood board, time sourcing, pricing and sometimes going back to the drawing board. There will be times when we will know exactly what a room needs just by standing in it - it is instinctive to us - but we will need time to develop those ideas into something stellar and ensure they work well before presenting them to you as complete concepts. So, in a word, no, we do not design your space at the Design Consultation. We will however, answer questions and provide design advice to the best of our ability. We don’t hold back on our opinion or expertise.

We don’t typically select paint colors during the design consultation - this is a Color Consultation service and can be covered in the Designer by Your Side service. Paint colors must be considered with everything else in your space and our process is to see what else is in your room, choose a number of possibilities and then order larger swatches to select from. We will mount the larger swatches on each wall of your room to see how they look in the different directions (north, south, east and west) of your space, as each will cast a different light. If we’re choosing more than one paint color and they have to coordinate, we must also consider undertone, as each color has its own underlying color that governs it. So, as you can see, there is a lot more that goes into paint choices than just slapping two colors together. We want to leave you with a fully considered palette that you can draw from again and again and know how to coordinate with and expand on by yourself, should you need to in the future.

Your excitement is palpable and we totally understand! There is nothing more fabulous than making changes to your space, in our book anyway! You are embarking on this interior design journey and you want to see changes NOW! :) We love it.

But no, unless our installers and tradespeople are scheduled, we do not do any physical labor during the Design Consultation. The Design Consultation is just that - a consultation where we discuss design. We do not rearrange furniture or hang pictures on walls or do any electrical work or anything like that. All that work must be scheduled - and will be billed accordingly - but it will be done AFTER we come up with a fabulous, cohesive design plan for your space. After all, we want your space to look and feel AMAZING!

The design consultation fee covers our time to travel to your home and provide our advice and expertise. It ensures our focus is on our design work that we are there for and we provide our advice regardless of whether you hire us or not. Unlike ‘free’ consultations, we do not withhold our advice or experience and give of our knowledge freely during our time together. And, if you don’t need our services, or if you want full service design, but we find that you really only need a few hours of us, we’ll tell you. Our goal is to ensure that every time our clients walk through their front doors, they feel like they’ve escaped into their very own beautiful worlds that reflect them completely and they never want to leave. A world that they want to show off and welcome others into. We feel lucky that we get to create that for them.

It all depends on what you need and the scope of work. Most of our clients like a full service design, where we take care of EVERY SINGLE DETAIL for you. If this is you, we’ll send you a custom proposal that will outline exactly what your project will involve, a fee estimate and a letter of agreement.

If you want to sign up for the Designer by Your Side service, you can do so with or without the Design Consultation (and we will let you know that at the Discovery Call). This service requires payment up front and we will send you a letter of agreement as well.

Once you sign and send the letter of agreement back with your payment, we’ll get started in turning your space into your dream home!
