What is a Show House & Why SHould I care?
THE HOUSTON MODERN HOME TOUR 2025 IS HERE, AND YOU MUST GO!
What is a Designer Show House?
A designer Show House is a chance for a Designer and Architect to show case their design talents, gain exposure and visibility, and find new clients for their business. It is a huge honor to be chosen to do a room in a Show House, or indeed a full Show House. Show Houses are typically ticketed events and proceeds benefit a charity.
People love to visit Show Houses to see designers’ work, get current on design trends, get design inspiration for their own homes, find designers or architects to work with on their own homes or simply to network.
But I’m not renovating/redecorating/building a house right now. Is it still a good idea to go?
Yes! Even if you have no plans on redoing your home anytime soon, visiting a show house is just plain fabulous fun. Designers are just another breed and it’s always a good idea to see what they come up with. It’s like saying, ‘I sing in the shower. Do I really need to go see Lady Gaga or Bono perform?’
Um, do I REALLY need to answer that?
You go to a show house not necessarily to take those ideas and literally translate them into your own home, but to see art in action. For some, just seeing the art itself is reason enough to go.
For others, seeing the utter madness and brilliance of how far a Designer or Architect can take the art, is inspiration for how it can translate into a real home in a more toned down way.
And for others still, it inspires new thoughts, new ideas, on how things can be combined in new ways. It pushes their boundaries and gives them courage to try new things.
You could say that show houses are art galleries for those who like houses.
Why Should I Come to the Houston Modern Home Tour 2025?
Because you get to tour Tash’s House!!! This is the first and ONLY time my home has ever been open to the public and so this is your chance to see a Designer’s home, up-close-and-personal! A Designer that you know.
Truth be told, it is not finished. But if you know me, you know that I believe a home - like people - is on a journey with the people who live in it and is therefore ever-changing and ever-evolving. So come and see it in its current state of glory, so you can see how it evolves over time. Because I already know what changes are coming soon and I can’t wait to show them to you…
There is SO much more I want to do. So many more stories I want to tell with it, especially since I was inspired after my trip to one of my pseudo hometown’s of Bangalore/Bengaluru this past Christmas. But with a busted up brachial plexus, I can’t paint and so the murals in my head will have to wait. It’s a blessing really - had the murals in my head come to life on my walls any sooner, my home probably wouldn’t have been as modern; there would have been a lot more ‘heritage’ at play. So come see it while ‘modern’ is winning…
Is Tash’s House the ONLY House on the Houston Modern Home Tour?
Hell, no! One of the reasons I’m so CHUFFED to be included on this Show House is because I’m rubbing shoulders with such Houston design royalty! There are, I believe, seven other homes on the tour that I know of and I’m in the company of Studio Met, Inflection Architecture, Karen Black Interiors and more. It’s humbling, indeed. And I highly recommend going to see all the homes on the tour. The perspective of viewing all the houses on the tour will be fascinating…
What if I don’t love modern homes?
It will still be eye opening… Even if you’re a classical girl or guy. Even if you prefer old homes. Even if you like mid-century style. Trust me, there is SO much to be learned from these masters! Having been a designer for over 25 years, I still learn a thing or two from every one of the Show Houses I visit! Creative people are just that - creative - and their brains work in such novel ways that I always come away with new ideas.
